Watering

Watering is one of the most crucial aspects of your lawn's health. Water too much and you will have a swamp, not enough and you will have a desert.

Water only in the morning. When watered midday the water can evaporate too quickly to be absorbed by the grass roots.

Watering in the evening does not allow the water near the surface to evaporate before the temperature drops for the evening which can cause fungus.

Mowing

Mowing mistakes cause more problems than any other lawn care issues. Far too many people will set their mowers too low or "scalp" the lawn. This leads to thin grass blades, shallow root systems, and in the long run, NO GRASS. Never remove more than one-third of the total blade length in any one mowing. For example, if you like to maintain a lawn height of two inches, the grass should never be allowed to get more than three inches tall before it is mowed.

Recommended Mowing Height will depend on your grass type:Gwinnett Landscaper - Xteriors Landscapes listens to you vision for your landscape
Kentucky Bluegrass   1 1/2" - 2 1/2"
Fine Fescue  2" - 2 1/2"
Perennial Ryegrass  2" - 2 1/2"
Tall Fescue  2 1/2" - 3"
Zoysia grass  1/2" - 1"
Bermuda grass  1/2" - 1"

Fertilization

We recommend chemical service by trained professionals. Most lawn chemical companies provide seven treatments per year. If the treatment does not get results within two to three weeks, most reputable companies will provide a second application at no charge. However, keep in mind that some lawn issues, such as Poanna, have to be treated at a specific time of year and take much longer to resolve.

If you choose to do your own treatments, do the research, create a treatment plan for the entire year, use name brand chemicals like Scott’s or Lesco, and follow the plan faithfully.
